The possibilty of increasing or decreasing the size of the essential page content by using Mozilla, IE ans Opera

Certain browsers, like mozilla, firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera, enable especially the partially sighted to increase or decrease the contents of the website.

Opera:

Opera offers a spezial zoom-function. The contents shown can be increased up to 1000 percent. Speciality: Not only can the font size be increaes, but also grafics and pictures. Select “view” in the menu bar and then define the zoom-factor.

If you prefer you may use the tab-based navigation as well. By pressing + you can zoom in up to a factor of 10, vice versa using the -. To get back to normal just strike key 6 on the keyboard. New versions of opera give you the opportunity to magnify per 100 percent with help of striking STRG + +, vice versa with STRG + -. You also have the option to switch between an editor-mode and an user-mode. A varitey of screen-settings - from high contrast to a the view for small screens - should provide a setting for hopefully every user.

Mozilla & Firefox:

Using Mozilla firefox you as well have a very good opportunity to zoom in and out. The only limitation: grafics and pictures can not be modulated.

To zoom in and out select the browser-menu bar and define the size of the letters in percent. For easier handling just use the tab-based navigation STRG + + to zoom in and STRG + - to zoom out. To get back to the standard size (100 percent) use STRG + 0.

Internet Explorer:

Using the Internet Explorer you may as well change the font size: It is possible to define the font size via mebu-bar. Via IE you may only choose between five steps: from very small to very large.

If this is not sufficient for your needs, it will be necessary to modulate the systems software. Here you may also change the screen resolution or colour depth. Windows has a variety of options. For adjusting your settings please follow the instructions:

  • Go to start > operating system or start > settings > operating system
  • Open the input assistance
  • Select display
  • Select the command field „activate contrast”.
  • Select via settings the contrast you wish to have.
  • Confirm the adjustments you made.

Auxiliary means

Further auxiliary means of the mentioned browsers - for example the zoom-function or screenreader - you may find under Hilfsmittel-Verzeichnis of the  accessibiltiy-compass.

Help concerning the data format:

It cannot always be guaranteed that all informations are portable in HTML-code. This especially applies to forms, multimedia or downloads from large files. Then additional file formats are required. Here you may find information on how to open the differnet file datas and what you should consider thereby.

PDF-files

Nearly all files can be opened and read using PDFs on almost every operating system. It is not easy to offer PDFs, which guarantee web accessibility. It is especially alsmost unachievable to make planning documents accessible. If we offer non-accessible documents these are indicated as such.To be able to open a PDF-file, you need the software Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded for free on the internet. If Acrobat Reader has already been installed, you may look at the contents of the file by just opening the link displayed.

Further PDF-readers you may find under http://pdfreaders.org

Separation of content and design

Contents and design do not depend on each other. With help of Cascading Stylesheets it is possible to dissolve the content-structure of a website from its design. Therefore a website may - without changing the code - be displayed in a variety of ways or even be transformed into an offline product (print). All parts of the website - navigation, headliners and texts - have been manually constructed by using valid and standard XHTML. The valider Code ist the basis for the accessability and ensures the longterm sustainability of a website. When creating the webpage great efforts were taken to the fact that the loading time should be as short as possible and one therefore may enjoy surfing the site.
